Zero W Thirty

I put on 21,000 since last year -
This year I needed 2 Tires
one carry bearing
and one strut

Had lots of snow this year - No problem for the Taco
ALSO
I took on a 4 mile back road during a melting and unexpectedly hit mud for 3 miles
it was rubbing the bottom of chassis ,
I had my daughter with me and she kept saying are we gonna be OK
I said Sure ;) wile I was white knuckled holding on for life
and hunched over the steering wheel to get the best look of the road
it floated over the mud , I was worried that I could get stuck but the 4.0 easily kept up the speed about 35 to 40 MPH
I made sure to keep moving . The next day I went back in the daylight to see what I survived . Then I saw a truth
year 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Stuck up to it's Axel
My conclusion the Taco's long wheel base with light weight 2000 pounds less then the Dodge
just floated over the Mess .
I bet these Taco's with REAL Mud /snow tires are unstoppable
They do well in most cases. Glad you kept moving. Most people hesitate and end up like the dodge. 3 miles of mud. I wouldn’t want to have to clean that taco haha.

Impressive you made it through. It’s all about keeping the consistent pace like @OR17TRD said. You’ll be cleaning mud off that Tacoma for months to come. Lol

The next day I looked at my truck in the day lite and it had a nice look
It's not set up as a mud truck but I can see why people talk abort the mud on truck's
& show it off . It rained a lot for a few days and that helped then freezing once more
so I'm gonna wait for good weather but they say snow once more next week.

Oil update .
Recent understanding caused my view of 0w30 to change
As stated cold weather like below Zero it's fantastic ..But made a recent discover or understanding
I see now that the 4.0's gas mileage is best with oil that is brand new to about 4000 miles Once it hit's about 4000 miles the MPG drops progressively mile after mile .
So what I thought was great MPG in winter , was that oil was new & comparing it to 5w30 with 6000 miles was not a fare comparison
ONCE 0w30 got old MPG dropped no different then 5w30. So a conclusion for me is , fresh synthetic oil delivers the best MPG . Once synthetic oil gets old and even older like 7000 miles gas MPG will be drastically worse .
I see now with great importance , oil changes at 5000 is key ,
oil changes at 4000 would be best but to 5000 is fine after 5000 miles MPG starts to diminish severely .
Today I did an oil change , synthetic 5w30 with 20% Lucas synthetic oil treatment
I'll keep you posted truck is at 243,000 miles burned one QT in 8000 miles
I pushed the 0w30 a bit more then I usually do , but It did it , felt nice except gas MPG
is lower with oil at 8000 miles

Maybe you “pushing it” a bit more decrease your MPG. Just a thought.

If MPG start's to get worse after 4000 that indicates wear additives are starting to breakdown . I wont be pushing it any more
Now that fresh oil is in MPG is back to Sip mode .
Lucas synthetic oil treatment is a nice product but adds $12 buck more to an oil change , less QT of oil savings
4 qts oil . 1 qt Lucas synthetic oil treatment

In the v6?

4qrts of oil and 1 qrt oil treatment leaves you half a qrt low

Maybe check your dip stick. You might need a little more in there.

246k miles. Don’t know how long the OP has ran 1/2 quart low. Generally 1/2 quart low won’t cause much damage but the oil wears out faster due to less circulating volume and there’s less to do its job of cleaning, cooling and lubricating.
Using synthetic may have helped too.

That’s a true point. As the oil gets used up it gets thicker and sludges up. The engine works harder equaling less mileage. It’s not near as severe with synthetics. The old refined oil was terrible for it. I’m sure we all remember those days. At 3k it was as black as coal. If you went over 5k it looked like tar.

Molasses

No I made sure level was good , I had a 5 qt container , So after the 1 qt Lucas I put in what was needed for full mark
I just said 4qt out of habit,
I am old school and from the days of all cars 5 qt oil change
Call me crazy but Lucas seems to really smooth out a motor
then again - New Oil

this isnt a foxbody mustang thankfully............ the dipstick does work.

I remember doing oil changes on the 5.0

I had a 1987 Mustang GT the Horse Power must of been under rated
My taco is rated at 236 hp, 266 lb.-ft. of torque
The GT was 225 hp 300 torque
I remember driving the Taco the first time on HWY thinking how the ratings are kinda close :)
So I was on the HWY at 85 MPH in Taco I thought lets see 236 hp, I hit it (peddle)
it went WELL
I watch it climb and said to myself Nope this is not like my 87 GT
the GT did 0 to 60 in 6.2
I tested it
kinda basic now a days .
Still torque of the GT was the deal . it could Lunge
85 MPH slip into 3erd and boom it lunged and got ahead of most any thing , well that was the 80's
If I had it now i'd see the truth, but I have my memories
I also watched a Mercedes Benz pass me at 5000 RPM's in forth
I figure 149 MPH
I put it in 5th - RPM's dropped to a tad under 4000
but no power to catch the Benz
So I'm here , I survived a wild car life .
I basically drive slow these days .
I drove fast, enough times to last a life time .
BTW my first car was a MGB so you can only imagine

Now u have lag due to throttle by wire too.

Well, ive never experienced it in the truck... but some have, and ive felt it on the camry.

Oh and that governor....

My maxima speedometer would go clear around and back to the "m" in mph
