That is good mileage! I usually get between 10 and 11 mpg, towing 5700lb boat/trailer. I'm pretty conservative on the highway, usually around 60. ECT on and S4/S5. Truck handles it quite well.
Just came across this comparison from Driving.ca. It's from May but hadn't seen it before. I like their realistic 'truck' point of view!

Yeah if there's locking lug nut on the wheels, there should be a 'key' for it (if the previous owner left it in the truck for you). Most tire shops have a master key that should work if dont have it.
+1 on the MX4. Have had mine over a year and very happy with it. Not completely waterproof but water intrusion is pretty minor (especially when used with a oem bed mat)
My 2017 was built in late September in Texas and delivered late October. Dealer said it was one of the last '17s they could get, so you could very well have an '18.
Do you have the 2018 model features like TSS (lane assist, radar cruise etc.)?
Yeah I have no problem with the towing ability of the Taco. It won't win any speed races pulling up hill, but I never felt lacking for power either. Use ECT mode and S4 and S5. I have a pretty steep gravel boat launch at the cabin and it pulls the boat up without any tire spin in 4lo, better...
Tow 5700lbs with my 2017, it's been great!. No worse than my old gmc sierra 1500 5.3 litre. I would have no hesitation towing into the 6,000 lbs range as long as the trailer brakes are in great condition.
Spent the day at the cabin landscaping and regrading the ground around the place. 6 yards of road mulch and 10 yards of gravel (all shovelled and wheelbarrowled lol) was a pretty active day!! New personal best 53800 steps!! [emoji846]
Welcome fellow shortbed owner! I have no regrets getting a shortbed over long, I've hauled a twelve foot step ladder, 8 ft beams, etc no problem. Just got to tie down diligently lol! Added bonus of the shortbed is manoeuvrability Offroad and parking in the garage with room to spare!! Cheers!
I'm at 11,000 kms (6800 miles), October 2017 build also. Double cab shortbox offroad. The gear hunting has pretty much disappeared, still feel some axle wrap and the odd "lunge" .
All in all I'd say I love this truck now, I test drove a sport, Offroad, gmc canyon v6, Chevy Colorado diesel...
Towed the boat to the lake, 250km and over a couple small mountain passes. 5700 lbs with surge brakes on all four wheels, the truck did great, better than I expected. Mpg was between 9 and 12. Used ECT with S4 and S5, very comfortable drive.
