Holy cow that is one clean 1st gen! So when did they stop having Toyota written in big bold letters across the tailgate?? Mine has the Toyota badge in the upper left corner of the tailgate and the Tacoma badge in the upper right corner of the tailgate.

1997 was the last year AFAIK with the block letters taping on the tailgate
but that may or may not be just on the 4x4s

actually that particular truck has oddities... missing side striping and the back lettering is not accurate for an SR5
i assume it was repainted and other lettering tape & not the OEM was used
maybe they were custom made?

it also has a sunroof which my taco does NOT have for better or for worse lol

i think so, yes
you can confirm this also from the front grille, unless its a 5lug 2wd whose front changed in '97 to what a 98-2000 looks like

I am litterally sitting at the Motif Hotel in Seattle enroute to the cruise ship Luminosa that will take us to Alaska for a few days and I already hate this town. We went for coffee this morning two blocks away and had to step over so many young, young, homeless people sleeping on the sidewalks. Saw the same ones last night smoking meth or fentanyl in every nook and cranny at 5th and Pike. I happened to sanp a picture of a Maroon 2nd gen 2WD Taco that appeared to be in really great shape. Looking forward to see what Alaskan Tacos look like. Bon Voyage !
