Any gear lube that meets 75w90 GL-4 or GL-5 will work for Gen2 diffs and xfer case.

You can always look in the back of the Owner's Manual. The information is detailed there.
 
Don't matter what the interweb claims.......use what is in the Owner's Manual.

Toyota wrote the manual. The interweb did not write the manual.

Correct, the reason why...these are electronic activated transfer cases. They need the straight 75w fluid so they can smoothly shift in, and out of 4wd when in severe cold temps. If you only drive in the south, it's not an issue using non recommended transfer gear oils.
 
It can and does get well below zero fahrenheit here and can stick under zero for days
And that qualifies as severe
 
A buddy that has his auto garage has run Into transfer case shifting issues in the winter when guys changed over to the wrong fluid. He uses red line, or this shell or bmw transfer case fluid.
 
Just heard a good bang on the large picture window while I'm sitting here on my computer. Took a look, and saw a bird just committed suicide flying into it.
